The Nom-Nom Chronicles: The Mission for Brunch

Located in the heart of North Park, California, right smack in the middle of San Diego is one of my favorite brunch places called The Mission. There are 3 locations; but I have always been loyal to the one in North Park.

 North Park
2801 University Avenue
San Diego, CA 92104
(619) 220-8992

Open daily 7am - 3pm

The Mission offers a wide variety of breakfast foods that include a wide variety of pancake selections, roast beef hash & eggs and mixes up the menu with some modern Latino breakfast items that include papa's con chorizo, Mission chilaquiles and breakfast burritos just to name a few. They also offer a lunch menu and gluten free menu that I have yet to try. Today I will be focusing my "nom nom" energy on brunch items, mainly the Mission french toast, which for some reason I always gravitate towards when I end up eating there.

The Mission French Toast includes; fresh baked cinnamon bread on a palette of berry puree, scattered with some fresh blueberries, strawberries and green apple slices. It's hard to go wrong with french toast, especially on those late mornings when you're craving for something sweet rather than savory and want to avoid doughnuts all together. I love the presentation that the french toast comes in. You can taste the cinnamon bread that isn't so overbearing and tastes just right and you can taste the butter, oh the butter!! The berry puree isn't directly on the french toast which is something I appreciate. I like to be able to manage the amount of puree that goes with each bite. If you are ever in the San Diego area, looking for a new, hip brunch place with a Latin twist, head on over to The Mission in North Park.

Just a quick review on their bloody Mary's. I am always looking for a really good and unique twist on bloody Mary's and The Mission didn't really offer anything great in that section of their beverage menu. So I would probably give it a C+ in terms of taste, uniqueness and presentation. Nothing fancy over here. Just something more on the mediocre side.

Word of advice: On the weekends it is always very busy. So if you plan on trying this place out on the weekend, I highly suggest not sleeping in unless you don't mind waiting 1-2.5 hours just to get seated. I don't believe that they take reservations, although you can always call and ask.

Three's Company

There's something about stationery goods and planners that make me feel some sort of reminiscent of my childhood past. I suppose it started when I was a kid in the 90's. When Sanrio was all the rage, and buying a brand new Pochacco stationery set on the weekend was something to look forward to at the beginning of the week. I never really mailed anything out with those letter sets, in fact, I really just wrote hello notes to my best friend Tracy who lived up the hill from me. Flash forward to the year 2016, adulthood is HERE! About 7 planners later and here I am, not much to plan but having a home for my "pretty" pens to write in was sort of.... relaxing and put me at ease? I look forward to the days off from work when I can sit in front of my television set, on the living room floor with a circle of stickers that surround me and just.... well... plan. Plan what exactly? Well more like reminders written in a planner. Reminders of when bills are due, when birthdays of friends and family members are, when I'm scheduled to work that week. You know, basically "adult" things. I remember "planning" in my Sanrio planner back in the days. Writing down my next play date with that best friend up the hill. Or when that next book report was due. Life was much simpler then.

Nonetheless, I am currently using three different planners. With all of them "reminding" me of the same exact things. I often get the question, "what exactly do you use each planner for?" and the answer to that is; I use them for all the same reasons. One might think that's a waste of time. To jot down the same information three times, on three different planners. Well, there's some what of a joy factor in doing so. And although most people will never get it, thats perfectly fine. It makes me happy and well, I don't give a damn what you think.

Currently using the Webster's Pages in personal size and A5 size in the color Walnut.

As my on the go mini planner/wallet; I am using the Louis Vuitton PM agenda (Trunks and Bags collection) no longer available for purchase.

Until next time,

XOXO,
Melissa May
